Cornerstone Pediatrics is committed to providing quality medical care from birth to age 21. We value your trust in our health care services as we strive to provide a caring, up-to-date medical environment for your family.
We partner with parents to help your children grow up to be healthy and strong, and we provide the options and resources needed to make the best health choices for your family.
NEW WEEKEND SERVICESWe now offer for established patients only a limited number of Well Visit exams on Saturdays, and will also have available Sunday afternoon sick visit appointments. These visits are by appointment only (no walk in sick). You may pre-schedule a well child appointment by calling our office to book for Saturdays. On Saturdays and Sunday, our phone lines will open 30 minutes prior to opening time and once the appointment schedule is filled, the phones will be turned over to our usual after hours nurse triage system. Saturday Hours: 8:30 AM-4:00 PM Please be aware that for sick visits on Saturday/Sunday, we charge an after-hours fee that may or may not be covered by your insurance provider. There is no after-hours fee for well visits on Saturday. |
FLU VACCINE (updated 01/02/2012):We have plentiful supply of the flu vaccine injection but we are out of Flumist (nasal vaccine). Your child can receive the vaccine with a nurse appointment during regular business hours or at an upcoming well visit. The Centers for Disease Control recommends seasonal influenza vaccine for all people over age 6 months. Please note that if a child is less than 9 years old and this is the first year to receive any type of flu vaccine, it is recommended they receive 2 doses (at least 4 weeks apart). INSURANCE COVERAGE: Medicaid insurance covers the cost of the flu vaccine. If you have private insurance, your insurance company will be billed and any amount not covered by your insurance will be patient (parent) responsibility. If our office is not in network with your insurance company, you will be responsible to pay in full at the time of the visit for the flu vaccine. Please contact your insurance company to verify coverage for the flu vaccine. |
New PhysiciansCornerstone Pediatrics is happy to announce that Kristin Donoghue, MD, has joined our group of physicians and her schedule is open to see both new and established patients. She is a board certified pediatrician who practiced in Ohio before moving to North Carolina. Also, Heather Peterson, MD joined our group in October 2011 after her family relocated to our area from South Carolina. Dr. Peterson will primarily work on weekends but will also work some weekdays depending on the season and our patient and practice needs. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Donoghue and Dr. Peterson to our practice and the Triangle area. |
TRAVEL CONSULTS
We want to make sure you and your family have an enjoyable, healthy, and safe trip when traveling abroad. Schedule an appointment with us to discuss your travel plans. We will guide you in preventing illness for your specific destination. This may entail vaccinations, prophylactic medications, and counseling.
You are best served by scheduling an appointment with one of the providers. We encourage you to make this appointment at least two weeks (but preferably longer) in advance of your travels. For your child's safety, new medications and/or vaccines that have not been discussed with you will not be prescribed over the phone. If you have already discussed your travel with your provider at a recent physical exam or previous travel consult, he/she may be able to accommodate your needs over the phone (please contact our Triage Nurse).

NEW CAR SEAT RECOMMENDATIONSThe American Academy of Pediatrics has announced new recommendations regarding car and booster seats for children. Main points include keeping children rearward facing until age 2 years(previously it was recommended children over 1 year and 20 pounds could face frontward), keeping older children in a booster seat until they are 57 inches tall, and not allowing children less than 13 years old to sit in the front seat. WALK IN CLINICWalk-in clinic is offered to established patients only from 730AM-8AM (Monday-Friday, but NOT on Saturday). It is offered on a "first-come, first-serve" basis and in busy sick season, we may run out of walk-in slots----at that time you will be offered an appointment time for the same day (this could be as early as 830-900 AM but it may be later depending on how pre-booked we are for that day). Walk in clinic is intended to address minor illnesses of short duration (1-3 days) such as ear infections, sore throat, colds, and fever. It is not a clinic for more complicated or long standing illnesses such as ongoing headaches, behavior or school difficulties, nutritional and sleep concerns, ongoing joint and back pain, chronic constipation, chronic abdominal pain, and long term asthma management as these visits require more time to adequately address. Our goal is to see less complicated illnesses in walk in clinic so that patients can be quickly seen and parents can make decisions about school or daycare attendance for that day. For those concerns that would require more time and attention, please make a pre-scheduled appointment. |
